One of the biggest expenses you’ll have when moving overseas is your airfare. To keep costs down, we recommend flying during the off-peak season (usually May-September). You can also use sites like Skyscanner or Google Flights to compare prices between different airlines and find the best deals.
Another way to save money is by using points or miles from credit cards or loyalty programs towards your flight. If you plan ahead and are strategic about your spending, you can easily save hundreds of dollars on airfare alone!
Step 2: Planning your accommodation
Once you’ve arrived in NZ, it’s time to start looking for housing. If you’re able to find roommates (preferably other teachers), you can split the cost of rent and other bills like utilities and groceries.
There are also a number of affordable hostels and guesthouses around the country that offer temporary accommodations for travellers on a budget. And if you really want to save money, there are plenty of free camping options available throughout NZ as well! Just make sure you do your research beforehand so that you know what amenities (if any) will be available at each campsite.
You can also check websites like TradeMe Property – a popular privately operated website with lots of rental properties advertised. This will give you an overview of rents and the types of rental properties available in the area you are considering.
Step 3: Planning your lifestyle
No matter where you decide to live or how much money you have available to spend, one of the best ways to make the most of your time teaching in New Zealand is by getting involved in the local community. There are dozens of meetups and social clubs catering to all sorts of interests, so there’s sure to be something for everyone.
Not only will this help you meet new people and make friends, but it’s also a great way to learn more about Kiwi culture without spending any money at all!
